Abstract

The knee joint is the biggest of the body and one of the most complex, for it was carried out a bibliographic revision with the objective of describing the anatomy of the knee joint as well as one of its most frequent pathologies, the anterior crossed joint lesion. To achieve its goal 13 bibliographies were consulted. It was concluded that the largest joint of the body is the knee, which gives the necessary support to keep the body weight. The meniscus are the fibrocartilage intraarticular structures composed of fibers of collagen type I. The joints and synovial bursa protect the joint and allow performing the mobility functions. The anterior crossed joint lesion is frequent and cause disabilities in young adult people and sport men, besides, it predisposes to further knee lesions and to an early osteoarthritis.
