Introduction: pancreatic cancer is the fourteenth most common type of cancer worldwide. Surgical treatment is the only option with a curative intention so far. Objective: to expose the general and current aspects of the laparoscopic Whipple procedure. Method: a bibliographic review was carried out from the consultation of scientific articles in both English and Spanish related to the topic in: Google Scholar, Dialnet, SciELO, PubMed and Ebso after which 70 studies were located, excluding 37 that were not relevant for the objective of exposing the general and current aspects of the laparoscopic Whipple procedure, selecting 30 articles. Development: minimally invasive surgery of the pancreas is part of the current history of surgery with great impact and development. The cephalic duodenopancreatectomy or Whipple procedure is the surgery indicated for the treatment of ampular and periampular tumors. The totally laparoscopic approach is technically difficult to perform as it requires a lot of dexterity and experience on the part of the surgical team. Conclusions: the laparoscopic Whipple procedure is able to offer satisfactory results, as long as it is performed by surgeons with experience in hepatobiliopancreatic surgery and laparoscopic surgery. It guarantees a much lower risk of intervention and an optimal recovery in the shortest possible time. The laparoscopic approach has been limited by its technical difficulties for dissection and reconstruction.
