Manifestations of periodontal disease in patients with osteoarthritis in a clinic in Palma Soriano

Introduction: periodontal diseases are conditions that affect the gums and the tissues surrounding theteeth.These are the most common in humans and can be associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis. Objective: to describe the most frequent periodontal diseases in patients with osteoarthritis. Methods:an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out. The universe was composed of 57 patients with a diagnosis of osteoarthritis, the sample was non-probablisticof43patientswhoattendedthestomatologicalconsultationatthePoliclínicoSurCarlos Montalván in Palma Soriano during the year 2022 and who met the predicted inclusion criteria. The variables analyzed were: age, sex, presence of periodontal disease (periodontitis and gingivitis), time of diagnosis of osteoarthritis and riskfactors.Results: age sof 59 years and older were the most prevalent (32.55%), as well as the female sex (53.48%).The duration of osteoarthritis that predominated was more than 7 years (37.20%),and periodontitis was the most significant (53.48%).Cariogenic diet predominated as a risk factor (69.76%),followed by smoking (55.81%).Conclusions: periodontal diseases predominate in patients 59 years of age or older,and are more frequent in women. Periodontitis is the most frequent disease in this group and the predominan riskfactor is cariogenic diet..Downloads
