Effectiveness of acupuncture with manual stimulation in migraine headache

Introduction: the acupuncture is an alternative therapy to the migraine headache. Material and
Methodological Design: it was carried out a quasi-experimental study in 224 patients assisted in consultation of Traditional and Natural Medicine of the Educational Surgical Clinical Hospital Celia Sánchez Manduley with diagnostic of migraine from September 1 from 2014 to September 31 2016. It was divided the patients in two groups. In one of themit was carried out an acupunctural treatment with manual stimulation and in the othera pharmacological treatment. The test of X2 was applied to identify if it existedassociation between the good evolution and the application of the acupuncture.
Results: the evolution according to beginning of the symptoms’ relief was good in the group with acupuncture in 58,9% of the patients; in comparison with 24,1% in the group control. In connection with the intensity of the pain, it was good in 57,1% in the group with treatment acupuntural against 32,1% in the group control, and it shows a significant association between the good evolution of the patients and the application of the acupunctural treatment, which was also shown in the decrease of the days with migraine and the improvement in the quality of the patients' life.
Conclusions: the application of the acupuncture was an effective therapy in the handling of these patients.
