Peer Review Process

About the editorial process with authors

In order to publish in the journal, the first author and co-authors must be registered in the system. The manuscript, within fifteen (15) days from its entry into the system, must be defined as ACCEPTED, RE-SENT FOR REVIEW or REJECTED to the editorial process. Exceptionally, up to twenty (20) additional days, depending on its complexity, will be available for expert consultation. Manuscripts submitted to the journal are evaluated by double-blind peer review, the process is performed by external reviewers, and is in charge of specialists in the corresponding topics, for which the authors must guarantee an anonymous review at the time of uploading the submission file. Once ACCEPTED, there are 90 days for the editorial process which may be suspended in case of non-response by the author/co-authors to the referee comments or communications from the editors. The extension of the deadline may be cause for rejection, mainly due to the loss of validity of the selected topic, its relevance or the timeliness of its citations.

The possibility of an article proposal being accepted depends on two main aspects: the adequate scientific level of the information it offers, and a correct structure of the writing according to the presentation, scientific style, that is, the substance (what is said), the form (how it is said) and the bioethical aspects, which will define its quality for the expected final decision.

Accepted manuscripts must be unpublished, the authors maintain the intellectual property rights over the article and guarantee the first right of publication of their article to the Journal, therefore, they cannot submit the article to the consideration of another journal for publication, except with the due authorization of the Editorial Team of the journal. However, as the scientific journal 2 de Diciembre adheres to the policy of open access to scientific publication, it allows their copy and distribution as long as it maintains the recognition of their authors, does not make commercial use of the works and does not make any modification of them. The Editorial Board reserves the right to introduce modifications of style and/or to limit the texts that require it, committing itself to respect the original content.

The scientific journal 2 de Diciembre does not contain or accept advertising materials, is not responsible for the opinions or criteria of the authors, and does not accept works that have been previously published or are under the consideration of the editorial team of another national or foreign journal. The publication rules can be consulted before sending an article on-line in the section policy.

Conflicts of interest
The author and co-authors should ensure that their submissions are following the policies of the journal and therefore considered accepted. The use of institution and individual names in submissions is the responsibility of the author who assumes any potential conflict as well as the information provided, the validity, accuracy, reliability, and permission to publish the information contained in the submission, which must be compatible with the mission of the journal.

Ethical principles for publication

Institutional authorization

In studies where institutional authorization is required, investigators should provide information on the approval of their proposed work, with the corresponding authorization from the institution prior to the start of the study. The research should adhere to the protocol authorized by the institution.

2. Informed Consent

The investigators should explicitly state whether or not they have the written consent of the participants involved in the research.

a) For the research

1. The consent should inform the participant of the following: (1) the purpose of the research, the procedures, as well as the expected duration; (2) their right to decline to participate in the research and to be able to withdraw even once the application has begun; (3) the possible consequences of declining to participate or withdrawing from the research; (4) foreseeable factors that may affect their willingness to participate, such as potential risks, discomfort, or adverse effects; (5) the potential benefits and incentives of their participation in the research; (6) the limits of confidentiality; and (7) contact information for the study sponsor(s) who can address questions about the research and about the rights of study participants. Participants should be given the opportunity to ask questions before giving consent.

2. When conducting studies involving the use of experimental treatments, authors must inform participants at the beginning of the research about: (a) the experimental nature of the treatment; (b) the services that will or will not be available to the control group(s), if any; (c) the means by which designations of treatment(s) and control group(s) will be made; (d) alternative treatments available if a participant does not agree to participate in the study or wishes to withdraw once implementation has begun; and (e) compensation for participation.

b) For the recording of voices and images in research

Researchers must obtain informed consent from participants before recording their voices or images for data collection unless: (i) the research consists solely of naturalistic observations in public spaces, and it is not possible to use the recording in a way that could harm or identify individuals; or (ii) the study design involves deception as a methodological strategy and therefore consent for the use of the recordings is obtained during the debriefing session (See section 6: deception in research).

c) Waiver of informed consent for research:

Researchers may waive informed consent only when:

1. It would not be reasonably practicable for the research to cause discomfort or harm, and it involves: the study of current educational practices, curriculum, or methods of classroom supervision applied in educational settings; the use only of anonymous questionnaires, field observations, or archival studies for which the significance of responses would not place participants at risk of civil or criminal liability or other harm; the study of factors relating to organizational work or effectiveness conducted in an organizational setting, where there is no risk that the employability of participants would be affected. O

2. When authorized by law or by institutional or federal regulations.

3. Client/patient, student, and subordinate research participants.

When investigators conduct studies with clients/patients, students, or subordinates as participants, they must take precautions to defend potential participants from the consequences of declining or withdrawing their participation. Likewise, when participation in research is a course requirement or leads to the possibility of additional credit, the participant should be given a choice among equivalent alternatives.

4. Offering Incentives for Study Participation

a) Investigators should make every effort to avoid offering excessive or inappropriate incentives, financial or otherwise, for study participation when such incentives could influence participation.

b) When professional services are offered as an inducement for participation, investigators should make clear the nature of the services, as well as the risks, limitations, and obligations.

5. Research Deception

a) Researchers may only use deception when it is justified by the expected scientific, educational, or practical value, and the use of non-deceptive techniques is not possible.

b) Researchers should not use deceptive instructions if the research could cause physical pain or severe emotional distress.

c) As an integral part of the design, researchers should make participants aware of deceptive techniques as soon as possible, preferably after their participation has ended and never before the completion of data collection. Moreover, participants should be allowed to decline participation in the research if they feel it is necessary.

6. Research Closure (Debriefing)

a) Researchers should offer participants the opportunity to obtain adequate information about the nature, results, and conclusions of the study, taking the necessary measures to avoid misunderstandings.

b) If the scientific or humanitarian value of the research justifies delay or withholding of information, investigators should seek to reduce the risk of harm.

c) When investigators become aware that the procedures used in the research have harmed a participant, they should implement measures to minimize the harm.

7. Ethical principles in scientific articles

a) Human rights, privacy and confidentiality: when necessary, authors should specify that they adhere to recognized standards, in order to minimize possible harm to participants, avoiding the use of coercion or exploitation, and protecting confidentiality according to the Declaration of Helsinki, the United States Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Rights and the European Medicines Agency Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice. Similarly, when appropriate, investigators should openly communicate any information that may influence the willingness of the participant, such as: sponsorship, purpose of the study, expected results, and possible consequences of publication of the research.

b) Cultures and heritages: authors should not include any images of objects that could have cultural significance or that could be interpreted as offensive, such as religious texts or historical events. Likewise, researchers should be careful not to include names or photographs of deceased persons when this is contraindicated in the culture.

c) Clinical trial registration: Clinical trials should be registered in a publicly accessible database before participants are enrolled, as agreed by the World Health Organization and the Declaration of Helsinki. Clinical trial registration numbers should be provided at the end of the abstract. If the clinical trial has not been registered, or was registered retrospectively, an explanation should be provided.

d) Animal research: research involving animals should adhere to the following standards: Replacement -the use of alternative methods to animal involvement-, Reduction -methods that reduce the number of animals to be used-, and Refinement -methods that improve animal welfare. Authors should report the study design, statistical analyses, experimental procedures applied and experimental animals used, steps followed in animal experimentation, characteristics of animal housing, and mating techniques employed. In addition, investigators should report the manner in which discomfort and pain were avoided and minimized, as well as confirm that the animals did not experience any unnecessary suffering during the study. Evidence of ethical and legal approval obtained by the institution endorsing the research should be included in the manuscript. The authors should declare whether the experiments were conducted in accordance with institutional and national ethical rules and regulations.
