Emotional manifestations of Angolan patients with alcohol dependence

Introduction: alcohol addictions are often associated with affective spectrum disorders. Objective: identify the emotional manifestations of Angolan patients with alcohol dependence. Method: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in 47 patients with a diagnosis of alcohol dependence admitted to the Main Military Hospital/Instituto Superior de Luanda, Angola, during the period from February to March 2023. Anxiety, depression, selfesteem and suicidal ideation, for which psychological evaluation instruments were applied. Results: anxiety as a state predominated in most of the patients, especially with high (42,55 %) and medium (19,15%) levels; The level of depression as a state had the highest representation with high (38,29 %) and medium (14,90%) levels; self-esteem was average in 48,94 % of the cases; 93,61% did not show suicidal ideation. Conclusions: the Angolan patients with alcohol dependence presented emotional alterations of anxiety and depression as a state, medium levels of self-esteem and without suicidal ideation in most cases.Downloads
