Abstract

The purpose of the study was to establish the need for the development of a specific competence in family doctors for the prevention and control of suicidal behavior at the community level. It was carried out a documental investigation and diverse searches in printed and digital materials starting from the consultations in the virtual library of the online catalog Infomed; in general databases, specific of Cuba and multidisciplinary as well as the certified digital magazines. The wide revision on the topic of the competences with emphasis in the specific competence that should have family practice physicians to achieve the prevention and control of the suicidal behavior in the community, allowed to base the necessity of the development of this competence in the physicians, the study reveals the proposal of the development of a partner-preventive competence toward the suicidal behavior in the community environment, able to impact positively in the territorial health situation always that the professionals are better prepared for their preventive work of the suicidal behavior.
